DOVER-FOXCROFT – George A. Merrill, 81, husband of the late Gladys (Carey) Merrill, died peacefully Nov. 21, 2006, at his residence. He was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Atkinson and was raised by Stanley and Inez Merrill. A U.S. Army veteran, he had attended log scaling school in New Hampshire. He worked for many years as a forklift operator at King’s Arrow Pine. He was a past member of the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department. George enjoyed going to yard sales, camping, fishing and, even this past summer, vegetable gardening and spending summer evenings in the garage watching traffic go by. He especially loved watching America’s Funniest Home Videos. He is survived by four sons, Aubrey of New Jersey, Arthur and his wife, Shirley, of Dover-Foxcroft, George and his wife, Brenda, of Dover-Foxcroft, Robert and his wife, Lynn, of Charleston; four daughters, Rose Gaddy and her husband, Ralph, of Waterboro, Pattee Merrill of Lewiston, Janet Merrill of Massachusetts, Beverly Pooler and her husband, Barry, of Dexter; a brother, Dwight Merrill of Dover-Foxcroft; three sisters, Virginia of Cape Elizabeth, Fern of Bangor and Mimi of Texas; 13 grandchildren, Michelle, Jessica, Michelle, Mindy, Derrick, Chris, Terri, Kerry Jo, David, Brady, Alex, Mike, and Ben; eight great-grandchildren. He will be dearly remembered by his long time girlfriend, Maurice Carter; and his long time good friends, Richard and Zora Desmarais. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, with Pastor Marilyn Rohdin officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery.
