NEWBURGH – Phyllis Doris (St. Louis) Smith, 72, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Nov. 21, 2006, surrounded by her loving family, at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 7, 1934, in Old Town, the daughter of Leon J. and Gladys (Bouchard) St. Louis Sr. Phyllis grew up in Carmel and was a graduate of Carmel High School, Class of 1952. While raising six children she worked hard helping to run the family farm in Newburgh. Phyllis also worked at the Newburgh Elementary School for many years, worked with her daughter, Dianne, in operating D & M Family Restaurant, Newburgh and for the past seven years worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Phyllis leaves her children a legacy of hard work, love and devotion to family and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. Phyllis “Nan” is survived by her beloved children, Dennis, Dwight and his wife, Stephanie, Dwayne and his wife, Leona, Douglas and his wife, Sherry, Dianne Chadbourne and her husband, Michael, and Dawna Robinson, all of Newburgh; three brothers, Leon Jr., Harold and Richard St. Louis; three sisters, Dorothy Overcash, Helen Bonder and Jeannette Sylvester; 12 grandchildren, five great-grand-children, many nieces, nephews, cousins; and a special friend, Brad Small of Exeter. She was predeceased by sisters, Alice Pitman, Hazel Jarvis, Virginia Tracey and Evelyn “Tutant” Dunton; and by brothers, Eugene and Donald “Ducky” St. Louis. At Phyllis’s request there will be no services. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. Arrangements entrusted to the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
