PORTLAND and BANGOR – Mary Janette Tozier, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Portland, the daughter of the late George and Bertha Boyd. Janette graduated from Cathedral High School, now Catherine McCauley High School, in Portland, Class of 1938. She was a nurse for many years in Portland and moved to Bangor in 1953, when her husband became manager of Merrill Transport. Janette was actively involved in Girl Scout Camp and was a leader for many years at the YWCA. She volunteered at St. Mary’s School in the 1950’s and 1960’s. She enjoyed the company of her close friends as an employee at Libby’s Card & Gift Shop in Bangor. Janette spent many winters in Florida volunteering in the library at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School where her daughter is an elementary principal. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her friends, and she had an open door to all. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cleveland Tozier; and a brother, Edward Boyd of Pinehurst, Texas. She is survived by her son, Richard P. Tozier of Brewer; a daughter, Susan J. Thomas of Bradenton, Fla.; her grandchildren, Emily and Alexandra; a special niece, Gloria Hopkins, who was much like a daughter, and her husband, Herb, of Eddington and their daughter, Leslie Gilmore of Brewer; sisters, Margaret Currie and her husband, James, of New Hampshire; Frances Kenny and her husband, Will, of Bangor; brother, John Boyd and his wife, Anne, of Plant City, Fla.; and a very close friend, Harriette Clement of Brewer. The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Westgate Manor and Dr. Vincent Michaud for their loving and attentive care. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Portland.
