BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Pauline “Betty” E. Putnam, 78, of Bedford County, Va., died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Bedford Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. Betty was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Fort Fairfield. Betty was retired from Travelers Insurance in Hartford, Conn. During her adult life, Betty lived in Connecticut, Maine and Mexico. In 2003, she moved to Virginia from Fort Fairfield, to be closer to her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Nora McKenney; her loving husband of 41 years, Charles P. Putnam; and sister, Anna Towers. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Gorman and husband, Jim, of Moneta, Va. and Lori Duckworth and husband, Jimmy, of Brownwood, Texas. Also surviving are her sister, Virginia Hurt; and brothers, Charles, Paul and Larry McKenney; special niece, Patricia Struble and husband, Dave; close friend, Mary Milliard and the rest of the Fort Fairfield bridge club. “Grammy” will be greatly missed by granddaughters, Erin Mills and husband, Matt, of Roanoke, Va. and Kristin Gorman of Moneta, Va. The lights of Betty’s life were her precious great-grandchildren, Ashley and Natalee Mills of Roanoke, Va. and Kennedy Ferris of Moneta, Va. Betty was very close to her family and spent lots of time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A special thanks is extended to Dr. “K” of Village Family Physicians, Betty’s favorite doctor and one who took great care of her. Thank you to the staff of Bedford Memorial Hospital for making Betty’s last moments painless and her passing peaceful. No local services will be held.
