BREWER – Mary Linnell Leslie 82, the wife of 61 years of Harry B. Leslie and a long-time English teacher at Brewer High School, passed on early Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, after a brief illness. Mrs. Leslie was born Sept. 3, 1922, in Pembroke, the youngest of three daughters of Jesse and Harriett Linnell. After graduating from Pembroke High School in 1940, she married Harry Leslie and the two made a family in Pembroke, Scarborough and Brewer. She returned to the University of Maine-Orono in mid-life and graduated in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in English. Mrs. Leslie taught sophomore English at Brewer High School for 18 years, then sold real-estate for 10 years before retiring in 1992. She served three years on the Brewer School Board. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Leslie is survived by two sons, David and his wife, Pamela, of Groton, Mass., and Mark and his wife, Loy, of Monmouth; four grandsons, John and his wife, Mary Pierce, of Salt Lake City, Scott and his wife, Suzanne, of Woburn, Mass., Richard and his wife, Tara, of Auburn, and Darek and his wife, Emma, of Quincy, Mass.; four great-granddaughters; three nieces and one nephew. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. In lieu of flowers, the Leslie family requests that donations be made to the Mary L. Leslie Memorial Fund, care of Eastern Maine Charities, P.O. Box 404, Bangor, ME 04402-0404.
