MILLINOCKET and MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Mary Magdalene Flannery Marter, 81, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, surrounded by her loving family, at her son’s home. Mary was born May 6, 1927, in Scranton, Pa., the daughter of Ann and Vincent Flannery. She was raised in Scranton, Pa., along with her sisters, June and Grace. Mary was a devout Christian of the Catholic faith. She was employed for many years by the state of Pennsylvania, working for the Department of Commerce as a personnel director and retirement councilor. She recently relocated to Millinocket to be close to her son and grandchildren, who were everything to her. She enjoyed beautifying her home and spent much of her spare time landscaping her yard. Quality time with her family and friends meant everything to her. Mary is survived by her son, Greg and his wife, Missy, of Millinocket; and her grandchildren, Kirsten Marie and Marissa Maeve Marter. She is also survived by several very special nieces and nephews, whose love and support through out the years have been a blessing to her, Sharry Purcell and her husband, John, Lorie Fry and her husband, Mike, Patrick Norton and his wife, Linda, Paul Gothier and his wife, Cherie, Patty Yannasi and her husband, Leon, Robert Gothier; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Vincent and Ann Flannery; and her dear sisters, June and Grace, with whom she is now joyously reunited. A special note of thanks to Gerry Martin, Mary Mackin and Kelly Coon for their companionship and to Donna Graham, Kathy Bishop and Debbie Kranich – your support and love will not be forgotten. A service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at St Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 112 Maine Ave. Millinocket.
