GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mary Moulton Manuel, 83, died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the Magnolia Place Nursing Facility, following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s disease. Born March 15, 1923, in Guilford, she was the daughter of the late Irving C. and Hazel Bonney Moulton. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Furman University in Greenville, S.C., leaving after two years to serve in the Navy Waves during World War II. Following the war, she completed her education graduating from Boston University. She taught English at the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston for many years and later became dean of students before retiring in the early 1980’s. Before retiring she maintained a home in Milford, N.H. and had resided in Greenville since 1999. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Gordon R. Manuel on Aug. 16, 1950; and a brother, Irving C. Moulton Jr. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Gordon R. Manuel Jr. and wife, Ann; a grandson, Chad Manuel; and a granddaughter, Liza Manuel, all of Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Grace Elizabeth Moulton; one niece, Catherine Mary St. Jean, one grandnephew, Rudi John St. Jean; and one grand-niece, Bonnie Marie St. Jean, all of Hallendale, Fla. She is also survived by long-time friend, George Fanning of Boston, Mass. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave, Sixth Floor, New York, NY 10001.
