DEXTER – Mary Spizuoco died Dec. 20, 2007, at a Dexter health care facility. She was born July 11, 1911, in Kings Park, N.Y., the eldest of four daughters of Antonio Martino, who died in 1976, and Pasqualina Yanotta, who died in 1966. As a child she lived in rural Wading River, Long Island, N.Y., where her father worked for the Long Island Railroad. The family then moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where Mary grew up. At the age of 16, and using the name of Mary Martin, she was hired by Mr. Blanchard at Lozier’s Department Store, Brooklyn, N.Y. Her first assignment was working as an elf helping Santa Claus during the Christmas season. She married Phillip Spizuoco, April 4, 1937. They raised three children in Lynbrook, N.Y. She did many oil color paintings and crafts. She was active in the Extension, the Mercy Hospital League and a local bridge group. After her family was grown, she worked at Dalshimers Flower Shop, a book wholesaler business in Lyn-brook, N.Y., an employment agency on Rockaway Avenue, Valley Stream, N.Y., and at 75 years old, at J. C. Penny’s, Green Acres Shopping Center, Valley Stream, N.Y. She was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Dexter. Mary was predeceased by her husband in 1991. She was also predeceased by her parents; three sisters, Lena, Emma and Antoinette; and two grandchildren, Joseph and Phillip Donovan. She leaves her son, Frank of Ripley and his children, Anne Marie, Christopher, Frank and his wife, Valeda, and children, Alaina and Zachary; a son, Anthony and his wife, Elaine and children, Annette, Alaina, Tina, and Maria of Hempstead, N.Y.; a daughter, Phyllis Donovan of Trinidad, Colo., and her son, Stephen; her daughter, Mary Ann Rule, her husband, Mark and sons, Ian and Zachary.
