HOULTON – Maryellen M. Emery, 79, died April 10, 2007, at a Gowanda, N.Y. health care facility. She was born June 5, 1927, in Houlton, the daughter of Harry E. and Florence (Middleton) Mooers. Maryellen attended grade schools in Houlton and graduated from Portland High School in 1946. She attended Atlantic Union College, Connecticut and worked for a short time as a teacher after leaving school. She married Lewis Emery of Ludlow Oct. 1, 1949, and together they raised four children. Maryellen was a member of Military Street Baptist Church. She served 41 years as general assistant administrator for the Town of Houlton. During her tenure she received several professional and community acknowledgments, including the American Association of University Women of Maine Achievement Citation Award. She served on the Salvation Army advisory board for 40 years, the United Way of Aroostook board, the president of the Maine Welfare Directors Association and a member of the welfare director’s legislative committee. Maryellen enjoyed many years of camping and traveling with her husband, especially to Prince Edward Island. She had many hobbies, including crafts, the computer and her digital camera. Maryellen and her precious Siamese cat, King Tut, spent the last two years being lovingly cared for in Collins, N.Y., at the home of her son, Hazen and his wife, Kathy. She was able to travel with them to many places and enjoyed several trips back to Maine to visit with family and friends. Maryellen was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, and we will miss her. Maryellen is survived by her children, a son, Hazen Emery and wife, Kathy, of Collins, N.Y.; twin daughters, Lydia Daigle and husband, Sarge, of Wilton and Lynda Fournier and husband, Thomas, of Jay; daughter, Sharon Bickford and husband, Brian, of Limestone; six grandchildren, Jarrod Harper of Ludlow, Vt., Ruth Nicholas of Stafford Springs, Conn., Karen Cerce of Nixa, Mo., Tyler Bickford of New Brunswick, Levi and Isaac Bickford of Limestone; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin Mooers and wife, Ann, of Buxton and Charles Mooers and wife, Doris, of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Marion Elliott and husband, Ercell, of Houlton, Gladys Nason of Hodgdon and Marjorie Russell of Bangor; a brother-in-law, Paul Emery and wife, Lois, of Yuma, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; a cousin, Irene Burton of Houlton; and a special lifelong friend, Annie Saunders of Houlton. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis in 1998; her twin sister, Marion Mooers in 1929; grandson, Shane Daigle in 2002; and great-granddaughter, Kirsten Nicholas in 1995. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Military Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
