INDIAN ISLAND – Matthew A. Mitchell Jr., 50, died unexpectedly Feb. 19, 2005, as the result of a tractor-trailer accident in New Jersey. Matthew was born Sept. 22, 1954, in Bangor, the son of Matthew and Juanita (Nicholas) Mitchell. Matthew enjoyed life. He was always helping family and friends. He loved his children and his family. He enjoyed traveling and loved going on the long hauls. Matthew is survived by seven children, Vanessa Mitchell of Milford, Joshua, Matthew and April Jones, John Mitchell and Angela Dyer, all of Millinocket and Julie McCarthy of Bangor; seven sisters, Valerie Carter and her husband, Cliff, Lisa Shirland and her husband, Robert, Nicole Sockbeson and her husband, Andrew, Patricia Tibbetts and her husband, Butch, Sara Hamel and her husband, Jared, all of Indian Island, Rhonda Frey of Milford, Melissa Newell of Dexter; four brothers, Burnell Mitchell and his wife, Pauline, Mark Mitchell, Seth Mitchell and his wife, Sherri, all of Indian Island, Dale Mitchell and his wife, Tammy, of Old Town; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Matthew was predeceased by his parents; and a son, Jacob Mitchell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Indian Island, with the Rev. Paul Kerns, celebrant. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service. Spring interment will be at Tribal Cemetery, Indian Island. Those who wish to honor Matthew’s life may do so by signing organ donor cards and expressing their wishes of organ donation to their family.
