BLUE HILL – Matthew Paul Horton passed away Oct. 24, 2006, while skiing on Shrine Ridge at Vail Pass, Vail, Colo. He was born Sept. 23, 1974, in Paris, France, where his father was on assignment with the U.S. Navy. He lived in Boston, Norfolk, Va., and McLean, Va., before attending Colorado State University and living in Vail, Colo., for the past 11 years. Matt and his sisters often enjoyed visiting their grandparents, Milton and Rebecca Horton on Millbrook Farm, Blue Hill, through-out the years, and had helped celebrate Milton’s 99th birthday, April 30, 2006, at Penobscot Nursing Home. Matt earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1988 with Troop 24 of the Tidewater Council, Norfolk, Va., which kindled his love for adventure. He assisted in youth programs at Saint Luke, participated in McLean Youth Athletics and played rugby during high school and college. He attended schools in Norfolk, Va., and McLean, Va., graduating from Langley High School in 1992. He is survived by his parents, former U.S. Navy Capt. Forrest A. and Janet P. Horton of McLean, Va.; sisters, Sarah A. (Horton) Halweil of Sag Harbor, N.Y., and Emily E. Horton of Arlington, Va.; many family and friends throughout New England. Matt will be remembered for his passion for life and all its wonders, his support to families and his deep commitment to his sisters, relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at the First Baptist Church, Blue Hill.
