HOULTON – Mattie Crouse Watson, 101, died April 17, 2004, at a local healthcare facility. She was born Nov. 11, 1902, at Zealand, New Brunswick, the third daughter of William and Letta Amelia (Brewer) Crouse. Mattie was a resident of Houlton, and a member of the Court Street Baptist Church. She worked for several area businesses as well as making hooked rugs, crocheting and knitting many afghans and children’s hats and mittens. She devoted many hundreds of hours to RSVP. Mattie is survived by two daughters, Marguerite (Watson) Bigelow of Boothbay Harbor, Marjorie (Watson) Watson and her husband, Paul, of Atlantic, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Earl Watson, in 1939; seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Dunn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arthur Myers officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Gifts may be made in Mattie’s memory to the charity of one’s choice, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, ME 04730.
