HERMON – Maurice “Mop-py” D. Blanchard Sr., 81, died Oct. 4, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1926, in East Corinth, son of Edgar R. and Mary C. (Palmer) Blanchard. Moppy served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Maine Central Railroad after 36 years of service. In his younger years he enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. Moppy also enjoyed bowling, a good game of horse shoes, hunting and fishing. There are also many fond memories of playing poker, cribbage and taking a chance scratching a Maine State Lottery ticket. He was also a member of the VFW, Winterport. He is survived by his children, Linda Dub? and husband, Phil, of Hermon, Jim Blanchard and wife, Judy, of Hudson, Patty Harnden and husband, Scott, of Hermon, Moe Blanchard and wife, Nancy, of Kenduskeag and Dick Blanchard and wife, Patty, of Carmel; a brother, Russell Blanchard of Dover, Del.; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Moppy also leaves behind a very special little buddy and loyal companion, his little poo-dle, Miki. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis (White) Blanchard in 2004. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, with assistant pastor Dennis Harvey, of Calvary Chapel, Orrington, officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Hermon. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at his home after the interment.
