DOVER-FOXCROFT and SPRING HILL, Fla. – Marilyn J. Farrar, 87, daughter of the late Rev. Erold and Violet (Pennington) Farrar, passed away Oct. 3, 2007, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. Born July 5, 1920, in Norridgewock, Marilyn attended Washburn schools and graduated from Ellsworth High School. She continued her education at Farmington State Normal School and Gorham State Teacher’s College. She taught in Bucksport and Old Town schools, and was a supervising teacher for the University of Southern Maine and for Gorham public schools. She retired in 1972. Marilyn was a member of the Maine Teacher’s Association and National Education Association. Marilyn was passionate about music throughout her life. In Gorham, she was a member of the Annie Louise Cary Club. She also served as historian for the Maine Federation of Music Clubs, as well as member and past president’s assembly. She was a member of the Spring Hill Music Club in Florida and Florida Federation of Music Clubs. Marilyn was predeceased by a sister, Genevive Farnsworth of Vermont; and a nephew, Robert of Texas. She is survived by her longtime friend, Mary Young of Dover-Foxcroft and Spring Hill, Fla.; a dear friend, Shirley Finnemore and family of Waybridge, England; as well as several cousins. A gathering of family and friends in memory of Marilyn will take place at a later date at Mary’s home. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
