NEWPORT – Maxine Norma Norris, 80, died June 16, 2006, with all her family around her. Her last words were “I love you all,” and she truly did. She was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Plymouth, the only child of Maurice O. and Eva (Nutter) Bennett. Maxine was educated in Plymouth and Newport schools. In 1946, she married Maynard Leroy Norris, who died Jan. 2, 1973. Maxine and Maynard spent many week-ends riding side roads all over the state of Maine, though their favorite place to go was their daughter’s home in Machiasport. Over the years, Maxine worked at area businesses, Shorette’s Diner in Newport, Abbot Mill in Dexter, and at the time of her retirement in 1986, she was employed at Guilford Industries in Newport. During her retirement years, she had spent astronomical hours crocheting for all her family and doing word puzzles. Maxine was a loving and thoughtful mother and grandmother. She was always there for each and every one of them no matter what. She was always great at cooking for all of her family, especially milk toast on the first Saturday morning of hunting season and baked beans on Saturday night. She was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Maxine is survived by four children, Carolyn and her husband, John Wood, of Machiasport, Carl Norris and his wife, Sara, of East Newport, Lois and her husband, David Bowden, of Hartland, Stanley Norris and his wife, Sue, of Palmyra. She is also survived by all her special grandchildren, Carolyn’s children, Brenda Albee, Doug Wood and Richard Wood, Carl’s children, Stephanie Charters and Christopher Norris, Lois’s children, Joe McEwen, Travis McEwen, Michelle Watson and Shawn Weeks, Stanley’s children, Garth Norris and Tyler Norris; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her half sister, Catherine Bennett. The family gives special thanks to the nurses and staff of Woodlawn Rehab. and Nursing Center in Skowhegan. Private family visitation will be held at the Brown Funeral Home, Newport. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, June 19, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating.
