NEWBURGH – Maynard Francis Bartlett, 90, passed away Feb. 28, 2006, at a local nursing facility after fighting a long battle with cancer and other health issues. Maynard was born Aug. 18, 1915, in Newburgh. He was the son of the late Manter M. and Olive E. (Toothaker) Bartlett. Maynard was a life long resident of Newburgh. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for many years. Maynard was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper, as well as a devoted Ricky Craven fan. Maynard was a lifelong member of the Archon Masonic Lodge No. 75 AF & AM of Dixmont, as well as a former member of the Newburgh Volunteer Fire Department. Maynard served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was once recognized in the Bangor Daily News in 1941, for saving his wife and daughter in a Newburgh house fire, a fine example of his strong will and his independence. He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy H. Nason and her husband, Ralph Sr., of Unity and Noreen E. Reed Yountz and her husband, Chris, of Newburgh; six grandchildren, Ralph Nason Jr., Ronald Nason, Suzanne Nason Ferreira, Kevin Hart, Tina Polo and Amanda Kazy; 11 grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Maynard was predeceased by his wife, June E. (Whitcomb) Bartlett in 1991. In keeping with Maynard’s wishes there will be no formal services, however expressions of sympathy may be made to the Newburgh Fire Department, in care of the Newburgh Town Office, 2660 Western Ave., Newburgh, ME 04444, for the purchase of new equipment in his memory.
