PITTSFIELD – Maynard W. Ames, 86, of 501 Webb Road, died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1921, son of Errol and Hester (Matthews) Ames. He attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from MCI in 1939. He was a crane operator for Norman Jackson and a hand sewer for local businesses. He married Charlotte in 1976 and they made their home in Pittsfield. They enjoyed traveling together across country a total of three times, and made many great memories together at their camp on Moosehead Lake. He loved his family and his home. He also enjoyed driving his John Deere tractors, bowling, playing horseshoes and a good game of pool. He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; four sons, Dwayne and his wife, Shelia, of Pittsfield, Van and his wife, Jennifer, of Skowhegan, Kevin and his wife, Trudi, of Pittsfield and Michael and his wife, Ellen, of Pittsfield; his daughter, Sharon and her husband, Alan Goepner, of Pittsfield; three stepdaughters, Joanne and her husband, Kenneth Buzzell, of Newport, Janie Buzzell of Skowhegan and Judith Lane of Fairfield; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; two bro-thers, Stanley and Dorothy Ames of Virginia and Robert and Norma Ames of York; and one sister, Irene Whitman of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenton Ames of Connecticut. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield. Arrangements are entrusted to Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
