MERIDEN, Conn. – Melville Levi Lancaster Jr., 46, of 8 Chatham Dr., South Meriden, husband of Pamela (Bisson) Lancaster, died unexpectedly Monday, July 4, 2005, at home. Born July 9, 1958, in Dover-Foxcroft, he was the son of the late Melville and Hazel Lancaster Sr. raised in Meriden and graduated from Maloney High School, Class of 1977. Mel was employed by Pratt & Whitney in Middletown in the 1980s, at Schneider National of Milford for five years, and recently by F & F Concrete Co. in Plantsville. He was a member of the East Gate Church in Guilford. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Pamela, he is survived by four children, Janine Lancaster, Melissa Lancaster, Michael Lancaster, and Mae Lancaster; two stepchildren, Sarah Szymaszek and Jessica Szymaszek; a granddaughter, Eowyn Dorothy Thorpe; four sisters, Priscilla Doane of Naples, Fla., Linda Upton of Bangor, Pamela Bisson of Meriden, Charlotte Godbyr of Lincoln; two brothers, Wallace Nelson of Vermont, Frederick Nelson of Guilford, Conn.; and by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Paul Roland Lancaster; two brothers, Winslow Nelson and Doug Nelson; two sisters, Ramona Nelson and Frances Fitzgerald. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005, at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, Conn., with Rev. Shirley Ellis officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, before the service, from 1:30 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Lancaster Family, 8 Chatham Dr., So.
