WINTERPORT – Melvin E. King, 69, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006, at his home. He was born April 4, 1937, in Belfast, the son of George and Olive (Clark) King. He moved with his family to Rockville, Conn. in 1954. Melvin served with the National Guard 169A Infantry from 1957 to 1963. From 1957 to 1996 he was a tractor trailer driver for Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut. After retiring, he moved to Maine in 1996. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Richard King; his brothers, George Jr. “Buddy,” Warren and Jim; and his sisters, Margaret and Lillian; and a grandson, George “G.T.” King. Melvin is survived by his wife, Theresa (Engelhardt) King; six children, Melvin King Jr. and wife, Suzanne, Linda Chamberland, Ronald King and wife, Alice, Gloria Carney and husband, Mark, Sandra King and Carol Colson and husband, Kevin; his brothers and sisters, Stevie King, Helen Hanes, Ancel King, Christina Manning and Myrtle Judge; 13 grandchildren, Michael and wife, Monica, Nicholas, Tammy, Jason, Paul, Melissa, Christopher, Anthony, Joshua, Jessica, Eric, Chantal, and Kortney; 11 great-grand-children, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Trevor, Austin, William, Tyler, Connor, Shawn, Micheal, Ashley, and Brianna; special family friends, April Knight and Lauren Goodfield; and many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the Waldo County Home Health and Hospice. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Freedom. Flowers are welcome those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to the Maine National Wildlife Association.
