WEBSTER PLANTATION – Philip Bernice Dill, born June 29, 1920, the son of Bernice Merrill Dill and Mary Elizabeth (Dobson) Dill, passed away July 28, 2006, surrounded by his wife of 64 years, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, at his home. Philip served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 7, 1942 to Nov. 7, 1945. He served in the European Theater of War and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 7409 in Mattawamkeag. He worked for Carpenter Millwright Union No. 621 for 30 years and after “retirement,” held many other jobs, for he was not one to sit. He served as an assessor for Webster Plantation for many years and also served on the school board. Philip was very much a family man. He loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always knew they could go to “Bumps” house. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and especially working in the garden. He was predeceased by his parents, two sons, Gerald and Grover; one sister, Della Downs; and five brothers, Clifford, Merrill, Byron, Lloyd and Dale. He leaves behind his wife, Geraldine Dorothy (Smith) Dill; one son, Earl Dill and his wife, Lorraine, of Lincoln; one daughter, Saralee Worster and her husband, Berle, of Lakeville; nine grandchildren, Philip Dill and his wife, Sherry, Heidi Leblanc and her husband, John, Jay Worster and his wife, Paula, Valerie Thurlow and her husband, Steve, Brian Dill and his wife, “Jinny,” Rachel Hunter and her husband, Mike, Jennifer Hafford and her husband, Ritchie, Nicole Lee and her husband, Joe, Travis Worster and his fiance, Holly Clark; 16 great-grandchildren, Victoria and Ashley Dill, Katie and Seth Freudenberger, Cassandra and Chelsey Worster, Hannah and Sarah Dill, Caleb and Zachary Thurlow, Lee Smith, Ivan Voisine, Whitney and Kiana Hafford and Tylar and Ashlyn Lee; and one sister, Priscilla Downs of Lincoln. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Hatch officiating. Interment will be in Cole Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Springfield Congregational Church or American Cancer Society.
