CARIBOU – Merlin George Orser, 85, husband of the late Nellie Mae (Turner) Orser, died Nov. 20, 2007, in Caribou after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Mars Hill, the son of Henry Charles and Bessie Inez (Wilson) Orser. He was educated in the Mars Hill school system, “One Day, Only in my Brothers Place.” He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Merlin was a self-employed carpenter for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Caribou United Baptist Church, attended Blaine Free Baptist Church and was a member of the Lister-Knowlton Post No. 9389 VFW, Caribou. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, teacher and best friend. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Merlin and Doris Orser of Oil City, Pa., Charles and Florence Orser of Woodland and Paul and Deborah Orser of Downsville, La.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Richard Gillen of Blaine and Susan and Freeman Dow of Caribou; one brother, Clayton Orser of Massachusetts; his twin sister, Merice Culverwell of Ashland; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, until time of services at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with military services being held 10 a.m. by the officers and members of the VFW. Funeral services will be held noon Friday, from the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Gardner Smith, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place at Kings Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill.
