MARS HILL – Merton H. Beals, 58, died Wednesday morning, April 6, 2005, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born at Blaine, April 15, 1946, the son of Gardner West and Bernice (Hotham) Beals. Merton was a disabled veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. He worked at International Paper Co. in Presque Isle for many years. Merton was a member of the Presque Isle VFW. He enjoyed fishing and liked to collect statues of eagles, knives and coins. He is survived by his wife, Ada “Rusty” Beals; his father West Beals, both of Mars Hill; a daughter, Wendy Andrews and her husband, Christopher, of Chancellor, Ala.; a grandson, Jared Andrews; four sisters and their husbands, Rhonda and David LaVoie of Caribou, Carman and Don Hobbs of Presque Isle, Myra and Richard Wilcox of Mapleton, and Debbie Beals of Mars Hill. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine, at a later date.
