ELLSWORTH – Michael “Mike” R. Saunders, 58, died Jan. 24, 2005, at an Ells-worth hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 9, 1946, in Ellsworth, the son of Herbert and Avis (Snow) Saunders. Mike was an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force in the 1960’s. He was a cook for Hill Top Restaurant in Ellsworth and Galley West in Southwest Harbor for many years. He worked as a professional gardener for 18 years at Thuya Gardens in Northeast Harbor. Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Johnson Saunders of Trenton; son, Marcus Saunders and wife, Jenni, of Hancock; daughters, Marcia Saunders and husband, Shaun Pinkham, of Steuben, Marnie Foglietth and husband, Al, of Northeast Harbor; stepchildren, Elizabeth Dubois and husband, Ron, of Portland, Greg Jones and wife, Crystal, of Hancock; grandchildren, Shelby, Andrew, Shaylyn, Sierra, Hailey, Isaac, Nicole, and Kelsey; and brother, Joseph Saunders and wife, Lorraine of Southwest Harbor. A service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
