KENDUSKEAG – Michael Neal Dyer, 62, died Jan. 10, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Jan. 18, 1945, in Hartland, the son of Oscar L. and Pauline J. (Neal) Dyer. Michael graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1964. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1964 and retired 20 years later in 1984. Michael was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was stationed in numerous locations throughout the world. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 15 years of service. Michael will be remembered for his quick wit, philosophy and uncanny knowledge of trivia. He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, umpiring, the Patriots and boxing. There are also many fond memories of fishing and sitting at his favorite space in the world, the front porch of Spider Lake Cabin No. 1, beside his beloved wife of 41 years, Jane. He enjoyed his friends at the veterans’ center, all of his family and the many large gatherings they had throughout the years. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Cook) Dyer of Kenduskeag; sons, Michael N. Dyer Jr. of Kenduskeag and Aaron S. Dyer and wife, Hyo Jung, and grandson, Aaron Jin Dyer, of Bangor; brothers, Stephen Dyer of Winslow and Kevin Dyer and wife, Jan, of Waterville; sisters, Paula Richards and husband, Bud, of Winslow, Constance Dyer of Mesa, Ariz., and Susan Flye and husband, Roger, of Summerville, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Dyer of Winslow; brother-in-law, Maurice Day and wife, Bonnie, of Glenburn; sister-in-law, Joan Killinger and husband, John, of Glenburn; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Zoe Dyer. A service of remembrance will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. George Curtis III, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Brewer, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Kenduskeag Cemetery, Kenduskeag. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Brookings-Smith, Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
