BANGOR and OLD TOWN – Michael William McCarthy, 87, died peacefully with his wife and son by his side, Dec. 27, 2005, at Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. He was born June 28, 1918, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., a son of James F. and Annie (Gillespie) McCarthy. Mike was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was employed for 31 years at the PCF mill (Now G-P) in Old Town. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks and a member of the DAV. He was a member of St. John’s Church in Bangor. He logged over 1500 volunteer hours for the Family Circle program at Eastern Maine Medical. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Jacqueline “Jackie” (Tarr) McCarthy of Bangor; a son, Bill McCarthy of Arizona; four grandchildren, Cheryl, Christopher, Aric and Traci Sue; five great-grandchildren, Hope, Kaylee, Billy, Maddox and Marcus; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, William, James and John McCarthy; and a sister, Mary Levandoski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Family Parish. Immediately following the service all are invited to the Holy Family Parish Center for a light luncheon and continued fellowship. Spring interment will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Maine Veterans’ Home staff for the unending care and compassion.
