HOULTON – Mildred A. Gardiner, 87, loving mother and grandmother, died Oct. 7, 2003, at a local healthcare facility. She was born Feb. 22, 1916, at Amity, the daughter of Wallace and Gladys (Hall) Laing. Mildred attended Hodgdon schools and was a 1935 graduate of Hodgdon High School and attended Ricker College. She taught school in Linneus and worked as a substitute teacher in Caribou and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by four sons, Wallace Gardiner of Hermon, Christopher Gardiner of Oswego, Ill., Cordell Gardiner of Bulverde, Texas, James Gardiner of Parker, Colo.; five grandchildren, Shaun, Matthew, Stephanie, Brittany and J.D.; three sisters, Bernice LeFay of Houlton, Bertha Black of Portland and Sonya Palmer of Hermon; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James W. Gardiner. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Dunn Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday.
