VERONA ISLAND – Mildred B. (Smith) Russell, 68, died Nov. 25, 2006, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Houlton, daughter of the late Perley and Beatrice (Crane) Smith. Millie was a loving mother and grandmother who always put others before herself. She enjoyed puzzles, traveling cross-country with her husband and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Donald F. Russell of Verona Island; children, Linda Kirby and her husband, Wayne, of Belmont, Terrie Hanscom of Bangor, Kathy Gray of Brewer, Winfield Smith and his wife, Claudia, of Penobscot, Donald M. Russell and his wife, Maryanna, of Bangor, Elissa Littlefield and her husband, Richard, of Verona Island and Phillip Russell of Verona Island; 19 grandchildren, three great-grand-children; her beloved basset-hound buddy, Roscoe; many nieces and nephews; and very special friend from hospice, Cathy. Millie was predeceased by a son, James L. Russell; and a brother, Earl Smith. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
