SPRINGVALE – Mildred F. (Mandigo) Wood, 98, died on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the Mountain View Residential Care in Springvale, following a declining period of health. She was born in Lexington, Mass., on Aug. 21, 1905, the daughter of the late John and Carry E. (Higgins) Mandigo. Mrs. Wood is survived by her children, Elizabeth E. “Betty” Baker of Wells, and Kenneth Wood of Bradley, Maine. She was the sister of John Mandigo of Medfield, Mass.; George Mandigo of Falmouth, Mass.; Blanche Huntley of Sagamore Beach, Mass.; Edith Abrahamson of Cotuit, Mass., and Ethel Frame of Pompano Beach, Fla. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Ronald H. Wood, who died in 1966, and mother of the late Paul F. Wood, who died in 1946, and Ronald F. Wood, who died in 1993. Mrs. Wood was a longtime resident of Cochituate before moving to Dixmont, 37 years ago. In 1938 she joined the Community United Methodist Church in Cochituate, Mass., where she was active in church activities. When she moved to Maine she became an active member of the Dixmont Methodist Church. When the church in Dixmont was in need of a new roof, with others, she canvassed the entire town of Dixmont residents and raised $6,000 to pay for the new roof. She was a founding member of the Cochituate Mothers Club; a longtime active member of the Dudley Pond Improvement Association in the 1930’s and 1940’s. She was a den mother for 14 years with the Cub Scouts in Cochituate, Mass. She had a long career as a cook at the Wayland High School, Happy Hollow School and with Kathryn Barton Nursing Home, all in Wayland, Mass. At the request of her family, there will be no funeral home visitations, and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home of Cochituate, Mass.
