BANGOR – Mildred Gross, 87, wife of the late Herbert S. Gross, died March 7, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Detroit, the daughter of Herman and Clara (Wilner) Altman. She was a graduate of Detroit Central High School. Mildred and Herbert were married Sept. 7, 1947, after his return from World War II. During her 58-year marriage to Herbert, she was a devoted mother and homemaker. Mildred was well known for her elaborate Sunday brunches. She enjoyed her work with children in the Detroit public elementary schools as a speech and hearing technician. Her continued interest in children was demonstrated by her participation in the Senior Volunteer reading program with the Bangor elementary schools. She was a longtime member of B’nai B’rith, serving a term as president. Surviving are two sons, Harvey Gross and his wife, Debby, of Rochester, Mich., Irwin Gross and his wife, Martha Fogler, of Bangor; four grandchildren, Bryan, Kimberly, Claire and Lucy; her brother, Robin Seymour of Redondo Beach, Calif.; former daughter-in-law, Gerry Gross of Bangor; two nieces, Jennifer Seymour and Deborah Young. Funeral services will be held 1:15 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, Center Street, Bangor, with Rabbi Darah R. Lerner officiating. Interment will be at Beth El Cemetery, Bangor.
