VERONA ISLAND and HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Mildred Janet Jacobsen of 51 Westside Drive, Verona Island, and of Homestead, Fla., passed away on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003. Mildred was born in Miami, Fla., and graduated from Miami Edison High School and attended the University of Florida. She was united in marriage to Marlow Jacobsen in 1949, a blessed union of 55 years. Mildred helped her husband expand the Homestead Gas Co. and Lou’s Clothing Store to Marathon, Fla. Upon returning to Homestead, she started her family having son John and daughter, Katrina. She remained active in Homestead Gas Co. as well as Jacobson’s Department Store. Later, she and her daughter became interested in horses and were active in the Homestead Everglades Posse. She then founded Hacienda Pinar Ranch and raised three generations of prize winning Paso Finos. Then in the early 1990’s she opened Jacobsen’s Antiques and Collectibles, bringing her findings from Down East Maine to the Homestead Community. She was predeceased by her son, John Marlow Jacobsen, and survived by her husband, T. Marlow Jacobsen; daughter, Katrina Lavene; son-in-law, Whitney Lavene; grandsons, John and James Ennis, Stephen and Daniel Lavene; and granddaughter, Alexis Lavene. Funeral service will commence 12 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Branam Funeral Home, 809 North Krome Ave., Homestead, Fla. Interment will take place at Palms-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
