BANGOR – Mildred “Mickey” Altschuler, 87, died March 25, 2008, at a local health care facility. She was born Oct. 8, 1920, in East Newark, N.J., the daughter of Samuel and Bertha (Wilson) Jacobs. Mickey was a brilliant student and spoke fluent French. She became a French and English teacher at Montclair College, then became manager and French speaking head of a company that sold large machinery to Peugeot Auto Co. Mickey was an outstanding tennis, golf and bridge player, and loved spending her winters in Palm Beach, Fla. In 1955, she was married to Irving Altschuler, who was a member of his father’s jewelry store, and a major during World War II and the Korean War. She moved to Bangor after his passing. Surviving are her sisters, Anne Brown of Bangor and Evelyn Ortner of Short Hills, N.J.; her brother, Dr. Erwin Jacobs of Chester, Va.; her favorite nephew, Jalon Brown of Framingham, Mass., and Arlon Brown of Massachusetts; as well as many other nieces, nephews and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, N.Y., with Rabbi Meyer Korbman officiating. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
