PORTLAND – Milton E. West, 77, formerly of 188 Center St., Brewer, died on Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, after a long illness at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born April 30, 1926, in Brewer, the son of Earl West and Leonice Pettengill West. He attended Brewer schools and lived there until he moved to Portland in 1996. He worked for many years at Mack Baking Co. and Harris Baking Co. both in the bakeries and as a tractor trailer driver. Mr. West liked fishing and taking day trips throughout Maine. He kept many dogs and cats over the years and was very fond of them. He was an avid Patriots fan and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with his wife. He also liked playing beano and billiards with his friends. He was a caring family man and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arlene West; one son, Donald E. West and his wife, Linda; two granddaughters, Lydia and Brigitte, all of Portland; a third granddaughter, Honor West Smith and her husband, Matthew, of Pontiac, Mich.; and an uncle, Clifford West of Bangor. A service of remembrance will be held at a date and time to be announced later this spring at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
