NEW SWEDEN – Milton Irving Landeen, 73, died at a local hospital Dec. 17, 2005, surrounded by his family from a brief illness. Milton was born Sept. 28, 1932, at Caribou, son of Andrew and Annie (Peterson) Landeen. Milton was a second-generation farmer. He kept up with modern technology which enabled him to sustain the farming operation for more than 58 years and establish four generations of Landeen farmers. He received the McCain’s TOP 10 Growers award for six years, which he was very proud of. He also served on the Maine Potato Board, worked for the Maine Department of DOT, was road commissioner of the Town of New Sweden for 21 years, 1964-1985, he also worked at the slaughter house in Stockholm for a spell. Milton was an avid sportsman, he loved to fish, hunt and trap, a tradition that he passed on to his sons and grandsons. Milton also bought and sold fur for many years, a past time that he enjoyed. Milton is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce (Caverhill) Landeen of New Sweden; five children, Michael and special friend, Diane, of New Sweden, Sheldon and Claudette of New Sweden, Debra Landeen and life time partner, Wade Monti, of Caribou, Roxanne and Paul Edgecomb of Caribou and Gregory and Kelly Landeen of Connor; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and to mention numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving by two sisters is Anna DeBrase of Somerville, Mass. and Erma Rouse of Washburn; and a very special niece, Anita Gardiner of Madawaska Lake. He is predeceased by four brothers, Clifford, Maurice, Elmer and Floyd Landeen; four sisters, Minnie Zetterman, Louise Anderson, Arlene Dickinson and May Bailey. When asked if he could go back in time and change his life, what changes would he make? Without hesitation, he stated he wished he would have had more children as they brought much joy into his life and he loved them all dearly. Milton was a father to all who were present… always giving and taking nothing in return. At a time of bereavement there are not enough words to describe the love family and friends had for him but most absolutely the love he gave back tenfold. He will be missed by many. Family and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Blackstone, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the New Sweden Cemetery, New Sweden.
