BANGOR and YARMOUTH – Peter McCrillis Pozzy, 76, died Friday morning Dec. 16, 2005, at his residence in Yarmouth, after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed in the most peaceful way imaginable, with his three children by his side. He was born June 13, 1929, in Bangor, to the late Theo Pozzy and Dorothy Sawyer. He attended Bangor public schools, first Mary Snow, then Garland Street Junior High, before spending his sophomore and junior years at Phillips Andover Academy and finally returning home to graduate from Bangor High School. After attending one year of college at Northwestern University in Chicago, he went to France for a summer and stayed there nearly 20 years. As a member of the U.S. Army, he fought in the Korean War. After returning from the war, he met the love of his life, an elegant British fashion model named, Ann Joyce Farrar. Their first two children were born in France, Theo McCrillis in 1960, and Julia Weston in 1963. They returned to his hometown of Bangor in 1966, and their third child, Alexander Farrar, was born in 1968. During his time in Europe he ran an advertising agency with his father, Theo. When he returned to Bangor, he again worked with his father, helping to run the Dole Company, an electrical contracting business founded by his grandfather in the early 1900’s. He later worked for many years helping others as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor at the Eastern Maine Medical Center and later Acadia Hospital. After retiring in the 1990’s, he moved in 2001, to a golf resort in central Florida where he eagerly awaited frequent visits from his children and grandchildren. He moved back to Maine in the spring of 2005, to spend his final days closer to his family. Peter was an athlete and avid sports enthusiast all his life, particularly basketball and tennis. He played semi-professional basketball for the Racing Club of France while living in Europe and played tennis both recreationally and competitively in his later years living in Bangor. After moving to Florida, golf became his sport of choice. He possessed a contagious spirit of enthusiasm and optimism that affected everyone around him. He was an unfailingly kind and generous soul who always seemed happiest in the company of his children and their friends. His greatest joy in life was knowing when his children were together, whether or not he could be there himself. His incredible love of family touched many and will never be forgotten. Peter is survived by his three children, four grandchildren; his brother, William and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; and his sister, Patricia. Family and friends are welcome to call 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. After visiting hours, family and friends are invited to a reception 6-9 p.m., at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, where food and refreshments will be provided. Casual attire is encouraged.
