DIXON, Mo. – Charles G. Ernst Sr., of Dixon, was born Aug. 19, 1931, in Ames, Iowa, a son of Purl John and Thelma Lenore Warren Ernst, and departed this life at 11:35 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mr. Ernst had attained the age of 73 years, 3 months, and 5 days. Mr. Ernst married Miss Nancy Pauline Lipscomb Sept. 12, 1952, in Newkirk, Okla. To this union, two children were born. Mr. Ernst was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and retired from Western Union, Bridgeton, Mo. His first years as a Kiwanian were in Bangor, volunteering along side his daughter, DeeEtte, her husband Richard and their children. He was past president of the Kiwanis in Pulaski County. He loved dancing, flower gardening and walking. His parents predeceased him. Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Ernst include his wife, Pauline Ernst, Dixon, Mo.; one son, Charles G. Ernst Jr., Dixon, Mo.; one daughter and son-in-law, DeeEtte and Dr. Richard Bruns, Bangor; two brothers, Robert Ernst and Ronald Ernst, both of the state of Iowa; four grandchildren, Erika, Chas, Mallory, and Andy Bruns; and a host of other family and friends. Fond and precious memories of this loving man will long remain. Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Ernst 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon, Mo., with Brother Wilbur Warman, Dixon United Methodist Church, officiating. Charles Ernst Jr., will perform his original song “Out on My Own” and sing “Amazing Grace” for the funeral service. Internment will be at the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon. Active pallbearers for Mr. Ernst will be Dr. Richard Bruns, Chas Bruns, Andy Bruns, Jim Kieferdorff, Frank Lipscomb, and Shawn Lipscomb. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Ernst Jr., Raymond Humphrey, Dave Murphy, James Daniel, John Ernst, and Jim Ernst.
