BLUE HILL – Murray S. Tapley, 97, passed away at his residence, Feb. 3, 2006. He was born Jan. 17, 1909, in West Brooksville, the son of Olden D. and Annie M. (Blodgett) Tapley. His humor, wit, kindness, fairness and friendship will be sorely missed, as well as his mentorship to many. Murray was a seaman in his early 20’s. He then worked for his father-in-law at E.S. Grindle Coal, Wood and Ice. He worked as a carpenter for Lawrence Dodge in Blue Hill until his retirement. He was a property caretaker for Mr. Nichols on Tenney Hill. Murray was the superintendent of the Blue Hill Fair Track and Horse Pull and particularly enjoyed deer hunting. Murray was a member of the Blue Hill Baptist Church, The Eastern Star, a 50-year member of the Ira Berry Masonic Lodge and an original member of the Rifle and Pistol Club where he received many awards. He is survived by a sister, Myrtle McVay of Ellsworth, along with nieces, nephews and adoptive family. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Thelma (Grindle) Tapley in 2004; two brothers, and four sisters. A graveside memorial service will be held May 21, at Seaside Cemetery.
