CASTINE – Nancy McWilliams died Aug. 26, 2005. She was 78. Nancy was a graduate of Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Manhattanville College, and Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania. Upon graduating, she was elected to A.O.A., the honorary medical fraternity. Having chosen the field of pediatric hematology/oncology, Nancy interned at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, continued her career at Cincinnati Children’s and San Francisco General hospitals before joining the faculty at the Medical College of Virginia. When she left Richmond for Maine in 1988, she was given the Dean’s Award for outstanding contributions to students and faculty. From 1988 until her retirement in 1992, she practiced at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Nancy loved children, sick and well, her family and her friends. She loved music, especially opera, and most especially, Luciano Pavarotti. She was an intrepid traveler. Each year at Christmas she treasured the cards and letters that came to her from all over the world. Nancy met the challenge of living with chronic lung disease with valor, grace, and humor. Special occasions were met with flowers on her oxygen tank. Missing a party was unthinkable. She celebrated the birth of her doctor’s first grandchild by presenting him (the doctor) with a bottle of Old Granddad. Beloved sister of Mary Rose Busby of Pinehurst, N.C., and Clare Lyne of Wellesley, Mass.; devoted aunt of Molly, Emmett, Timothy and Kerry Lyne, Leonard Busby and Louise Ulrich. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, Bucksport. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Trinitarian Congregational Parish of Castine with the Rev. William J. Friederich and Fr. John F. O’Hara officiating. Interment will be in Castine Cemetery, Castine.
