LOCKWOOD, W. Va. – Naomi Proffit Morris, 66, went home to be with Jesus on Jan. 20, 2004. She died at home under the care of Kanawha Hospice. She was born Feb. 19, 1937, at Yukon, W. Va., the daughter of Virginia Romans Proffit of Greer, S.C. and the late Charley Proffit. She was also predeceased by one brother, James Proffit. Highlights of her 30-year career included working as a Public Health and Visiting Nurse for the Kanawha County Health Department and as a surgical nurse at Charleston Memorial Hospital. During her life, Naomi was a member of several church communities, including First Baptist Church of Benton, Ark., Columbia Street Baptist Church of Bangor and Edgewood Baptist Church of Wheeling, W. Va. Most recently, Naomi was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Lockwood, W. Va. and the Nicholas-Webster Camp of the Gideon’s Auxiliary. Naomi had many talents and interests including needlepoint, sewing, cooking, antiques and most importantly caring for her family. She owned and operated an antiques business, Cottage Antiques and Collectibles in Lockwood and authored a book, “Proffit Discoveries,” which outlined the Proffit Family genealogy. Naomi had a strong appreciation for the value of education and helped to establish a scholarship loan program for members of the Proffit family. Surviving in addition to her mother, is the love of her life, Alfred R. Morris, of Lockwood, her husband of 45 years; two daughters, Pamela Morris Struble and her husband, Oliver, of Flemington, N.J. and Katrina Morris Sesler and her husband, Jason, of Baltimore, Md., three brothers, Howard Proffit of Tazewell, Va.. Eugene Proffit and his wife, Mary Lou of Pennsburg, Pa., and Rodney Proffit and his wife, Doris, of Greer, S.C.; two grandchildren, Scott Austin Struble and Amy Catherine Struble. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville with the Rev. L. Glenn Morris officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of the White Funeral Home at Summersville. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Naomi’s memory to the Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064 or the Gideon Memorial Bible Program, P.O. Box 131, Summersville, WV 26651.
