BANGOR – Nathan “Nucky” Kaman, 97, died March 6, 2005, after a short illness. He was born April 9, 1907, in Bangor. As a member of the “Greatest Generation” who served the U.S. during World War II, he participated in the Normandy invasion at Omaha Beach. Nathan began work in his father’s bakery, Bangor Rye, selling bread. After World War II, he became a film projectionist and lighting specialist working at the Enfield Drive-in, the Olympia Theatre and Westgate Cinema and handled the lighting for vaudeville shows, the Ice Capades and television commercials. He was a former treasurer of Local 198 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. He was also employed for many years at Star Beef. An avid Boston Red Sox fan, his life spanned five of the team’s World Series championships including the preceding one when he was 11 years old. In addition to the Celtics and Patriots, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, fishing, picking berries and apples and the company of his friends at Congregation Beth Israel. Nucky is survived by his son, Mark Kaman and daughter-in-law, Pamela, of East Boothbay; three stepdaughters, Eloise McLaughlin of Alton, Jenny Madden of the Republic of South Africa, and Florence Briggs of Florida. He was predeceased by his father, Barnett Kamenkovitz; his mother, Molly Epstein; his wife, Cora Ida (Jackson); and his brother and sisters, Archie, Ida, Sarah, Bertha (Robinson), Dorothy (Ornstein), Katherine (Haberman), Esther (Dresner), and Rita (Rubin). Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center St., Bangor, with Rabbi David Cantor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Beth Israel Cemetery.
