NELDA THOMPSON WORTHLEY FARMINGTON – Nelda Thompson Worthley, 80, of Strong, and Venice, Fla., died unexpectedly Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of Cecil and Olive (Ross) Thompson. She was educated in Phillips schools and graduated from Simmons College, Boston, Mass., in 1947. Aug. 21, 1948, she married James L. Worthley at her parents home in Phillips. Nelda taught school in Old Town and Poland. Later, she was employed by the Department of Agriculture and the Western Area Agency on Aging. She was a member of the Fairbanks Union Church. Her priority was her family. She enjoyed taking care of her home, cooking, reading and spending time visiting with her family and many friends. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Worthley of Strong; one daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Cox and her husband, Bill, of Auburn; three sons, Craig and his companion, Dawn of Hallowell; John and his companion, Louanne of Hermon and Kevin of South Portland; two grandchildren, Karen Cox of Livermore and David Cox of Old Town; a sister, Jean Dibden of Augusta; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Gordon Thompson. Public memorial services will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. from the Fairbanks Union Church, Rte. 4, Fairbanks, with the Rev. Scott Planting, officiating. Following services, a reception will be held in the church vestry, hosted by the Women’s Fellowship. Private family committal services will be held at the Village Cemetery, Strong. Those who desire may give gifts in her memory to the church, P.O.
