MEDDYBEMPS – Nin L. Hanson, 82, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at a Calais hospital. Nin was born Aug. 26, 1923, son of the late Edward and Mae (Antone) Hanson Sr. He was a veteran of World War II, serving at Normandy Beach on D-Day. Nin retired from the National Guard in Calais after 37 years of service. He was employed by Georgia-Pacific Mill for more than 30 years, retiring in 1983. Nin was a member of William T. Wren Post No. 23 American Legion in Baileyville and enjoyed boating, fishing, trains and woodworking. He was predeceased by a son, John Hanson; a brother, Melvin Hanson; and two sisters, Colleen Huckins and Anna Hamilton. Surviving are his loving wife of more than 38 years, MyAnn Margaret (McLaughlin) Hanson; step-children, Ricky Olivares of Pompano Beach, Fla., Kelly and Billy Hartford of Bangor, Terry and Charles Rier of Lubec and Erin and Mark St. Peter of China; six sisters, Marquerite Graham of Baileyville, Lovina Thomas of Oakland, Barbara Bonville, Kathleen Simpson and Joyce Willette, all of Presque Isle and Shirley Day of Lincoln; three brothers, Edward Hanson of Eastport, Danny Hanson of Presque Isle, and Doug Hanson of Alaska; a grandson, Troy Hanson of Meddybemps; step-grandchildren, Aaron Olivares of Bangor, Joshua Rier of Lubec, Tanner Hartford of Bangor, Jacob Olivares of Waterville and Tuesdae Thibodeau of China; and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Meddybemps Cemetery, Meddybemps, with Pastor Rolfe Flood officiating. A reception will follow at Meddybemps Community Center.
