PORTLAND – Nona Richard, 81, of South Portland, died April 5, 2005. She was born in Lower Haineville, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Henry W. and Helen Palmer Noble. The family moved to Caribou when she was four. Mrs. Richard was educated in the Caribou schools. During World War II she worked in a war plant that shipped potatoes overseas to the troops. She was married in 1950 to Leandre Richard and in 1953 moved to Portland, and then moved to South Portland in 1959 where she has lived since. She worked at Kings and Mars department stores in The Mill Creek Shopping Center for 15 years. Since then she had been employed by Sears at The Maine Mall. In her past time she liked to knit and needlepoint. She always attended her sons’ baseball games. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland and was a member of the Sodality. Mrs. Richard was also active as a den mother in Cub Scouts. Predeceasing her was her husband, Leandre Richard in 1993; her son, Leon Richard. Surviving are her two sons, John and Stephen and wife, Rita Richard of South Portland; one brother, John T. Noble of Caribou; three grandsons, Scott Richard, Tony Richard, and Christopher Richard; one granddaughter, Tina Bergeron, and four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Noah and Madison; nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2005, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Holy Cross Church, Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will be at New Calvary Cemetery.
