MONSON – Norma G. Stanchfield, 77, died Dec. 6, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Greenville, the daughter of Warren and Louisa (Sawyer) Worster. She worked as a gatekeeper for the North Maine woods for 29 years. She is survived by five children, Ernie Copeland and his wife, Joyce, Warren Smith and his wife, Maralee, Susie Darling and her husband, Vern, Dannie Smith, and Timmy Smith all of Monson; a stepson, George Stanchfield of Massachusetts; 17 grandchildren; several great-grand-children; a sister, Jeanne Chapman and her husband, Bill, of California; also survived by the many dear friends that she made tending the gate. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald “Bud” Stanchfield; and a son, Peter Smith. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Lake Road Cemetery in Monson.
