ELLSWORTH – After 83 years of life on this earth, Norma S. Gilbert went to be with her heavenly family Aug. 19, 2005. She was born in Island Falls, Feb. 10, 1922, the daughter of Wendall and Gertrude (White) Spearen. Norma worked at Royal Nursing Home for several years. Her favorite job was at J. J. Newberry’s working in the fabric department. She had a good eye for fabric in helping to make quilts. She also worked in other retail businesses for many years. She was known for her sense of humor, strong work ethic, love of children and animals. She especially enjoyed visits from her little dancer. Norma was active in the VFW Auxiliary, Women’s Altar Guild at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church and was a member of St. Dunstan’s Church since 1963. She is survived by her sons, Eugene C. and wife, Marlene Gilbert of Lyman, John and his wife, Peg Gilbert, of Ellsworth, Tom and his wife, Betty Gilbert, of Pittsfield, and Peter S. Gilbert of Saco; a daughter, Ellen and her husband, Dusty Fisher, of Brewer; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grand-children who all knew her as “Guga”. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, State Street, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Ian Bockus officiating.
