BANGOR – Norman D. Bowker, son of Thad W. and Agnes (Ganner) died Sept. 4, 2005, at a Bangor nursing home. He was born Nov. 23, 1908 in Enfield. He served his country in World War II as a member of the U.S. Amy Air Corps, Army Airways Communications System in the South Pacific Theater of Operations, including the islands of Guadalcanal and Bougainville. In his early years he was in public accounting and then became a controller and general manager of the Rines Co., Strout Ford and Sullivan Ford Sales in Bangor. He then entered the real estate business opening his own agency, Bowker Realty Co. which he operated with his wife Dorothy, who predeceased him in 1992, for more than 30 years. Mr. Bowker was a member and trustee of All Souls Congregational Church. He belonged to several service and professional clubs and was a past president of The Bangor Lions Club, Bangor Board of Realtors, and the Greater Bangor Multiple Listing Service. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Barbara A. Bowker of Bangor, a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. and James Oakes of Merrittstown, Pa.; three grandsons, Jay D. Bowker and his wife, Lynn, of Brewer, Christopher D. Bowker of South Portland, and Dustin Oakes of Merrittstown, Pa.; a granddaughter, Denise of Merrittstown, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Jaycob R. Bowker and Katelynn M. Bowker of Brewer; one sister-in-law, Carole Bowker of Scarborough; and several nieces and nephews. Norman expressed that he did not wish to have any funeral service or public visitation. A graveside memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Riverview Cemetery, North Bucksport with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix Pastor and teacher of All Souls Congregational Church officiating. Please remember him for the laughter in his voice and a smile on his face.
