Norman Davis, 62, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, after a long, courageous battle against the cancer that never really beat him. Recently a resident of Belfast, he was raised in the Western Mountains of Maine which he also called home. Known best and loved most for his sense of humor, Norman had a story for every occasion and required a joke in trade for every one that he told, and he always had one ready to tell. His sense of humor stayed with him in all he went through to the end of his days. An electrical engineer by trade, Norman also possessed many other talents, which manifested themselves in a variety of projects done for his own entertainment and to make the lives of his family and friends easier. Whenever anyone who knew him needed something done, his name was the first one to come up to consult on how to get the job done right. He was currently building a camp on Damariscotta Lake, which is still a work in progress. He was a licensed pilot for many years and owned an assortment of planes with and without pontoons that he maintained for his own enjoyment. He started with a Piper Cub, which he crashed and then rebuilt as a Super Cub. As his family grew, so did his planes. He traded his last one for a motor home, which he used for an extended trip to Alaska in 1992, with his wife, Cindy. He was a consummate outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman, who loved anything involving these and who passed that love on to his children and grandchildren. Depending on the season, he could be relied on to think up a plan combining his family and recreation. A year didn’t go by without a hunting trip or an extended trip on his snowmobile. Norman touched and inspired more people than can be mentioned and was truly loved by everyone who had the privilege to know him. He leaves his wife of 17 years, Cindy Davis; and his four children, Becky, Scott, Josh and Ben, and their families, who include six grandchildren; his brother, Tom of Cape Cod; his sister, Dottie Timberlake of Topsham; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will take place 11 a.m. Aug. 14, at the Belfast United Methodist Church, Mill Lane, Belfast. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Waldo County Hospice, P.O. Box 407, Belfast, ME 04915 or Maine Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 553, Portland, ME 04112. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
