OLD TOWN – After a long and fulfilling life, Norman L. Brilliant, 90, husband of the late Susan M. (Smith) Brilliant, passed away peacefully June 5, 2006, at his home. He was born Dec. 27, 1915, on French Island in Old Town, the son of the late Frederick and Delia (Lauzier) Brilliant. Norman served in the U.S. Army, 152nd Field Artillery Battalion, 43rd Division, during World War II. He was the humble recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. He was later employed at James River Corp. for 35 years, retiring in 1980. Norman was well known and respected in the Old Town community for his garden from which he derived great pleasure. He is survived by his two daughters, Linda M. Medeiros and her husband, Manuel V., of Asheville, N.C. and Norma Jean Brilliant of Old Town; three grandchildren, Denise V. Medeiros of Charlotte, N.C., Eron B. Gray of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Daniele J. Gray of Portland. He is also survived by his sister, Anita M. Parent of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his grandson, Jason V. Medeiros; brothers, Randolph, Gerald and Frederick “Junior;” and sister, Germaine. “In seeds of wisdom planted, in the quiet cultivation of life’s best qualities, in deep devotion to family and friends, in the bountiful memories that sustain so many – a father’s love lives on.” His family is comforted to remember that all their tomorrows will be touched by the strength of his love and the warmth of his memory. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a celebration of life will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Bill Labbe officiating.
