ANSON – Olive Anne Gilpatrick, 97, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital, Skowhegan. She was born April 23, 1911, in North Brooksville, the oldest of eight children of Wilmot and Alta (Seger) Sherwood. She graduated from Brooksville Primary School in 1927 and Washburn High School in 1930. In 1939 she married her first husband, Overton Wilburn Stuteville. Olive lived in the Boston area for many years and worked at Southshore National Bank, Quincy, Mass., during her time there. After returning to Maine in the mid 60s, she worked for Food Services at the University of Maine – Orono, until her retirement. In 1969, she married Vaughn Gilpatrick. After Vaughn’s death, she moved to Anson. She was a master gardener who always had a weed-free garden even into her 90s. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren the difference between a good weed and a bad weed. Her other hobbies included crocheting and playing piano. She was considered the family historian, keeping track of friends and relatives in both the Brooksville and Washburn areas. Anyone who had a family history question would always go to Olive. She was a stickler for good grammar and proper use of the English language. She kept notes of news broadcasters and reporters who used improper grammar. She also enjoyed interesting quotes and collected any she came across. She was predeceased by her sisters, Alta Sullivan (Dan), Janice Crouse (Arvard) and Hope Martin (Alfred); brothers, Frank Sherwood (Thersa), Clyde Sherwood (Bunny) and Earle Sherwood; grandson, Prescott “Rocky” Daigle; and a son-in-law, Paul Daigle Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Audrey Daigle and husband, Gilman Page, of Anson; a son, Douglas Stuteville of Oakland, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lowell Sherwood and wife, Eva, of Hampden; as well as many nieces and nephews throughout Maine, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Kentucky and California. No services will be held. Burial will be at the family Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.
