BAR HARBOR – Olive L. Staples, 94, formerly of Rockland, wife of the late Clark R. Staples, died Feb. 7, 2005, at Sonogee Rehabilitation and Living Center. She was born in Thomaston, April 21, 1910, a daughter of Enos and Abby Manks Parks. She was educated in Thomaston schools. With her husband, Mrs. Staples lived in Rockland until moving to Bar Harbor in 1972 following Mr. Staples’ retirement. In early years, she worked cleaning homes and in Rockland area factories. She later served as a caregiver to several Rockland residents. Mrs. Staples was an avid bird watcher and gardener who often sold flowers she had grown. At the time of her husband’s death in 1990, Mrs. and Mr. Staples had been married more than 60 years. Mrs. Staples is survived by one son, The Honorable Bernard C. Staples and his wife, Jeanette S. Staples, of Bar Harbor; her granddaughter, Heather Ann Staples of Portland; and her sister, Minnie June Knowles of Key West, Fla. A graveside service at Village Cemetery, Thomaston, will be announced in May by Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. The Rev. Charles Bradshaw, Rector of the Church of Our Father, Hulls Cove, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maine Audubon, 20 Gilsland Farm Road, Falmouth, ME 04105.
