YARMOUTH – Mabel Welch, 89, long-time Yarmouth resident, passed away Dec. 20, 2004, at her home in Falmouth. Mabel was the daughter of Loretta and Ernest Welch and grew upon the family dairy farm in Yarmouth. Mabel was very involved in the family farm, often driving the delivery truck before heading off to school in the morning. She maintained the family homestead well into her retirement. Mabel attended Yarmouth schools graduating from North Yarmouth Academy in 1933. She was employed by Portland Pipe Line Corporation until her retirement in 1977, after 27 years of service. Mabel was an avid entertainer, particularly enjoying tea parties. Mabel had a delightful sense of humor and a love of politics, even keeping abreast of the recent presidential election. She was a devoted godmother to Helena and Hunter Arbo. They were her pride and joy and Mabel cherished her time with them. Throughout most of her life Mabel shared a friendship with Thelma and Mitchell Cope, who were beloved and trusted friends for over sixty years. Mabel was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth and Holy Martyrs Church in Falmouth. Mabel is survived by a sister, Ilma Martin of Brunswick; a niece, Marcia Hatch of Milford; and a nephew, Gary Martin of Mexico, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. Visiting hours will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Dec. 23, 2004, at Lindquist Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 23, 2004, at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Rd, Falmouth. Internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in the springtime. Arrangements are being handled by Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
